USA Today -- Clinton Pushes Pragmatic Foreign Policy

Hillary Rodham Clinton, testifying at her confirmation hearings for secretary of State, told a largely friendly Senate Foreign Relations Committee that foreign policy must be based on "principles and pragmatism, not rigid ideology."

"We must use what has been called 'smart power,' the full range of tools at our disposal," Clinton said in her opening statement. "With 'smart power,' diplomacy will be the vanguard of foreign policy."

"Foreign policy must be based on a marriage of principles and pragmatism, not rigid ideology," the former first lady said. "On facts and evidence, not emotion or prejudice."

"America cannot solve the most pressing problems on our own, and the world cannot solve them without America," Clinton said.

Hmm... working WITH other nations, interesting concept.

Clinton Concedes with Inspirational Speech

Hillary Clinton conceded her run for the White House today in D.C. and formally endorsed Barack Obama. 2008 was a groundbreaking year in American politics where both a black man and a woman for the first time in history had a realistic opportunity at becoming president of the United States. Clinton referred to the historical significance of this in her speech by comparing it to women's suffrage and the civil rights movement. Despite what happens in November, the race of 2008 has made it easier for women and minorities to achieve the highest office in the land because (in her own words) "although we weren't able to shatter that highest, hardest glass ceiling this time, thanks to you, it has about 18 million cracks in it and the light is shining through like never before."
