Missoulian -- Rehberg Casts 'No' Vote
Montana's lone representative in the House joined 227 other lawmakers and voted down the $700 billion bailout package for the nation's banking system. His reasoning:
...He believed the tax-funded rescue plan didn't contain enough regulations to keep another meltdown from occurring and offered too many protections for “the people who got us into trouble in the first place.”
You can't argue with his reasoning, I like the idea of bailing out Joe Millionaire as much as the next person. But isn't this argument for more federal "regulation" coming from a conservative Republican who believes in a smaller, less intrusive gov't? Does this mean Republicans are seeing the light, that an unsupervised free-market economy may not be the way to go? Some lessons are learned the hard way.
Rehberg also added,
"Ultimately, Americans and Montanans and the taxpayers will judge me on how well we solved the problem, not on how fast we solved the problem."
Ya got that right, Denny. When is he up for re-election?
